I've been poking around on the Internet and have noticed that there are many hosting providers who've been affected by the Cogent mess. As such, there are some high profile sites that were affected by the disaster.
One of those sites is
Wikipedia, the popular, free online encyclopedia.
Wikipedia was down for over two hours, according to CNet News.
I've got a feeling they'll be lawsuits coming over this trainwreck.
With the hosting companies, having to credit their disgruntled customers for not being able to meet their "99.9 percent uptime guarantee", the costs for Friday's Cogent fiasco will quickly add up!
Clients who rely upon their websites for sales, will likely seek reimbursement for lost revenue.
There is a saying in the business world: Time is money. In the world of Internet web hosting, downtime is
lost money.
This could get very nasty!
